Boob-flashing girl hit by distracted driver/少女馬路上露奶 遭分心司機撞個正著 十二月 18

A flasher who exposed her breasts to traffic was hit by a car whose driver she distracted.

Cherelle May Dudfield was struck by the vehicle after she ran out into the road following a dare by friends.

The 18-year-old had been drinking with her mates when the incident happened, and had to be treated in hospital for cuts she suffered.

The teenager was also landed with a £120 fine for disorderly behaviour.

‘I stood on the centre line, flashed a couple of cars, got back in and they [her friends] told me to do it again, so I did,’ said Dudfield.

‘And then I saw a car coming towards me, on the middle of the centre lane driving up towards me, so I decided to run. And then I got hit.’ To demonstrate exactly how silly she had been, she later re-enacted her stunt for a TV station – but this time she was fully sober, and no one crashed.

And Dudfield also gave a repeat performance to cows on her farm

However, police officers did not see the funny side of her exposure, which happened in the small New Zealand town of Invercargill.

‘This was obviously an alcohol- involved offence,’ said Olaf Jensen, of Invercargill Police.

‘This girl put herself at risk with the actions she undertook – not only herself, but the motorists on the road.’ (AFP/Metro)

Skateboarding monk/和尚溜滑板 十二月 18

Photographs of a monk skateboarding inside a historic temple have caused controversy in China.

They were taken by a visitor to the Emei Mountain Temple, in Sichuan province, and posted on the internet.

The monastery stands near the top of Mount Emei – the highest of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China and the site of the country’s first ever Buddhist temple.

Internet users were taken aback by the photographs and posted comments criticising the monk for adopting a "modern fad".

"Monks should seek quietness and riding a skateboard is such a contradictory thing to Buddhist life," said one.

However, a spokesman for the temple said that the outside world did not understand the life of a contemporary monk.

"People get their impressions from TV or movies, where monks are praying all day long, without any motivation or desire," he said.

"But these days monks also enjoy sports like badminton, table tennis and skateboarding in the spare time, as well as praying.

"They even use the internet and mobile phones to promote Buddhism. This is not contradictory to Buddhism but actually is part of the Buddhist spirit." (Huaxi Metropolis News)

World’s largest single artwork/世界最大的單一藝術作品 十二月 17

Etched onto the desert sands of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, this unique sand drawing is the world’s largest single artwork with a total circumference of over nine miles.

Big enough to contain over 176 Wembley Stadiums, the giant drawing is visible from 40,000 feet up in the sky, and has even been wowing airline passengers flying across the desert into San Francisco.

Even Virgin supremo Richard Branson has phoned to congratulate artist Jim Denevan on his ambitious desert vision.

Taking 15 days to complete, Jim and a team of three colleagues worked day and night on the stunning piece in May of this year, which has a diameter of just over three miles.

Containing more than 1000 individual circles, Jim, 48, painstakingly built up the giant circle using a roll of chain fencing six feet across pulled by a truck round repeatedly to dig into the desert sand.

Based on a mathematical theorem called an Apollonian Gasket, the design is set around triples of circles at tangents to others.

‘I set out to build the largest artwork in the world and I am extremely proud that I have managed to do this,’ said Jim from his Santa Cruz home.

‘This individual piece is larger than the famous lines of Nazca in Peru and that is something that excites me.

‘Me and my long time collaborator Caleb Cole have been planning this for over two years and it was a pleasure to complete it.’

The largest lines etched into the sand of Jim’s drawing are 28 feet wide and almost three feet deep in places.

Using GPS technology to organise their co-ordinates to create a perfect circle, the team braved the intense desert heat and night-time cold to construct their masterpiece.

‘We began at what we termed our centre point and worked out diametrically from there,’ said Jim.

‘We had to dig out each line four or five times to mould it into the sand. It was tough, tiring, but of course it was ultimately fun.’ Artist Jim has been creating sand art for the past 17 years and sees this piece as the next step in his ultimate plan to work with NASA to draw on the plains of Mars. Kung fu monkeys attack trainer/功夫猴攻擊馴猴師 十二月 17

A Chinese man who trained monkeys martial arts to entertain shoppers was shocked when they turned the tables on him.

Lo Wung, 42, taught the monkeys so they could entertain crowds outside a shopping centre in Nshi, in eastern China’s Hubei province.

But the money-spinning primates turned the tables on their trainer when he slipped during a show, with one quick-thinking monkey flooring him with a kick to the head.

Hu Luang, 32, a bystander who photographed the incident, said: "I saw one punch him in the eye – he grabbed another by the ear and it responded by grabbing his nose. They were leaping and jumping all over the place. It was better than a Bruce Lee film."

At one point the monkey trainer grabbed a staff to hit the monkeys, only to find himself facing a stick-brandishing monkey that cracked him over the head.

He only managed to get the monkeys under control by tangling them up in the rope that had been used to stop them running off.

Mr Hu said: "He was really furious, he made the monkeys kneel on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs to punish them and make them show remorse for their nasty attack." (roundup)

Bird learns to fly again/鳥兒再度學飛 十二月 16

Its feathers have been smoothed and it has been wrapped in string – but this bird isn’t destined for the oven at Christmas.

Meet Sisso, a young swift who is learning to fly with the aid of a specially made harness.

He arrived at an Israeli animal hospital with one of his wings all but missing.

However, the chick has learned to soar since then – with the help of some wool and a long piece of string, which dangles from the ceiling.

One member of staff, Dr Ariela Rosenzweig, took the baby swift under his wing, and the bird is learning to fly again with the help of (very) basic engineering.

To start his flying lessons, Sisso is inserted into a fetching – and very festive – red harness. It is then attached to string which is stuck on to three spots of the ceiling, using sticky tape. The technology is pretty rudimentary stuff but it does seem to work.

The swift is in good company at the hospital in the Ramat Gan Safari Park near Tel Aviv, which also hosts big cats, elephants, reptiles and monkeys.

The park’s latest attraction is aptly named. Sisso’s name is derived from a Finnish term that means determination or perseverance. (Metro/Daily Mail)

Olympic weightlifter gives birth while training/智利奧運舉重選手受訓時產子 十二月 16

A Chilean Olympic weightlifter unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy while she was training in a Brazilian gym, according to reports.

Elizabeth Poblete, 22, did not know she was pregnant, and called for a doctor when she felt unwell a week ago while hoisting weights in the gym in Sao Paulo, where she lives.

She then gave birth to a premature baby, who was doing well and whom she named Eric Jose after she got over her shock, according to a report on the news website Globo.com.

Both mother and son were taken to hospital.

Horacio Reis, the head weight trainer in the gym, said: "It was a surprise for me. A week ago I acted as a judge in a competition in Chile and this girl was competing.

"All went well and she won the competition.

"I could see she was a big girl, round and strong. That’s all I noticed."

Doctors calculated that Miss Poblete must have been six months pregnant. The training and diet observed by female weightlifters can cause irregular menstruation.

Miss Poblete competed for her country in the Beijing Olympics last year. She had been seeking to beef up her body to move from the 75-kilo category to 85 kilos over the past few months. (roundup)

Book 99 years overdue returned to Mass. Library/圖書館借書99年後才歸還 十二月 16

The book returned to the New Bedford Public Library in Massachusetts this week wasn’t overdue by a week, a month or even a year. It was nearly a century overdue, and the fine came to $361.35.

"Facts I Ought to Know about the Government of My Country" was supposed to have been returned by May 10, 1910.

Stanley Dudek told the Standard Times newspaper he came across the book while going through things that had belonged to his mother, who died about 10 years ago. He decided that returning the book to the city was the right thing to do.

The overdue book fine was a penny a day in 1910. But Dudek wasn’t asked to pay it.

The library plans to display the book in its special collection. (AP)

Mother of 13 wants to have 14th baby/生了13個小孩的媽媽還想生第14個 十二月 15

A mother-of-13 has told her husband she wants IVF for her Christmas present this year.

Debbie Simpson, 45, is struggling to conceive for the first time in her life with Derek, but doesn’t yet feel her family is complete.

‘Having babies is my job,’ said Mrs Simpson, who has spent an incredible ten years of her life pregnant.

‘I love it and I’ll keep trying until I’m 60. We didn’t plan to have such a big family, it just kind of happened because there was no reason to stop.

‘It’s never taken me longer than six months to fall pregnant when we stop using contraception.’

Mr and Mrs Simpson, from East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, are already parents to Chloe, 23, Kimberly, 21, Natalie, 18, Benjamin, 16, Cameron, 15, Christopher, 13, Amy, 12, Nathan, 11, Lewis, nine, Jade, eight, Celeste, six, Olias, five and Orlando, three.

However, after giving birth to their youngest son in 2006, Mrs Simpson struggled to conceive. She also suffered a miscarriage at nine weeks the following year.

Mr Simpson, a part-time civil servant, said: ‘We don’t feel as if our family is complete yet.’

But as they don’t qualify for IVF on the NHS, the couple, who met as teenagers, are now desperately saving to have the treatment privately, which will cost £5,000.

Mrs Simpson, a size 12, is also working out six times a week to help boost her fertility by getting her body in shape.

‘There’s only a three per cent chance of falling pregnant at my age, but that’s better than nothing,’ Mrs Simpson told Closer magazine. ‘There’s nothing I want more than another baby.’ (Daily Mail)
