Magnet Boy’s big attraction/六歲男童身體有如一塊大磁鐵 五月 12

A six-year-old Croatian boy astounds his family and friends with his ‘magnetic’ body.

Ivan Stoiljkovic is reportedly able to stick metallic objects such as spoons, mobile phones and even frying pans to his body.

And his family, who live in a village near Koprivnica, say he can carry up to 25kg of metal stuck to his torso at a time.

He demonstrated his special talent to local journalists by taking off his shirt and sticking cutlery, a frying pan and even dumbbells to his body.

And his family claim he also has the ability to heal people with his hands, alleviating his grandfather’s stomach pains and taking away the pain of a neighbour who hurt his leg in a tractor accident.

Ivan’s grandfather, Ivo Stoiljkovic, said when his grandson laid his hands on his stomach they became extremely hot and the pain simply went away.

Ivan is also said to be much stronger than other children his age and is able to easily carry bags of cement as heavy as 50lbs. (wrapup)

‘JetMan’ in a daring 8-minute flight over Grand Canyon… And this time he actually made it/瑞士火箭人穿噴射裝 8分鐘飛越大峽谷 五月 11

It was a feat that would have made Buzz Lightyear proud…or extremely envious.

But for Yves Rossy, who finally completed his flight over the Grand Canyon in a jet suit, it must have been a relief.

For the Swiss adventurer, dubbed JetMan, was forced to cancel his daring spectacle at the last minute on Friday due to red tape and safety issues.

Despite the setback Rossy did not give up and on Saturday strapped on his wings and took to the skies for a spectacular eight-minute flight over a five-mile radius.

The custom-built jet suit that Rossy wears on his back weighs 120lb and has a 79″ wing span.

It averages speeds of 125mph and has four engines.

The 51-year-old had stepped casually onto the side of a helicopter before it took off and into the sky above Guano Point on the Hualapai Indian Reservation

Once it had reached 8,000 feet Rossy, who flew fighter jets for 17 years in the Swiss Air Force, simply let go, plummeting to the earth below before firing up his engines.

Then, looking like a high-tech, Lycra-clad Icarus, he soared 200 feet above the canyon rim reaching speeds of up to 190mph before opening his parachute and landing safely on the canyon floor.

Rossy said the flight, which was his first in the U.S., was among the most memorable experiences of his life.

Previously he has flown his jet suit across Lake Geneva in 2002 and the English Channel in 2008.

His U.S. flight had taken two years to plan but was held up at the last minute because the final Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval had been given just 30 minutes before he was due to take off on Friday.

This meant that Rosy had had no time to practice. That may have been OK if the flight have been over water, but with the Grand Canyon’s snagged edges and jutting out rocks one wrong move could have proved fatal. (Mail Online)

Amputee Chinese artist creates incredible paintings with only his toes and mouth/大陸口足畫家的畫作令人驚奇 五月 09

A love of art and determination forced this Chinese man into using his mouth and feet to create some of the most sought after paintings in the world.

Huang Guofu, 41, was involved in a tragic accident in which an electric shock forced him to have both of his arms amputated at the age of four.

But undeterred and inspired by beautiful surroundings he forced himself to learn how to paint using his feet at the tender age of 12.

Sometimes spending all night awake trying to perfect his stroke he eventually improved and began selling his work.

‘It took time and I eventually became better and better and there were times when I stayed up all night in order to get better,’ he said.

At the age of 18 Mr Guofu’s father fell ill and he quit school and spent hours painting and selling his work on the pavement to try and help pay towards his father’s care.

He would sell his art on the streets where some people openly admitted buying his work out of sympathy.

Mr Guofu then travelled around China trying to sell his work but was told he needed to change his technique to try and improve his work.

He then that he taught himself to paint using his mouth.

Mr Guofu is now so highly regarded as an artist he was appointed the vice-curator of the newly opened Chonging Talents Museum.

His paintings are regularly bought by dealers and art lovers across the world.

Despite the deformity Mr Guong says he is a happy person who ‘appreciates what God has given me’. (Daily Mail)

Spray paint addict caught in the act/美噴漆癮慣犯當場被逮 四月 29

Spray paint addict Kelly Gibson has been caught by the police red handed and silver faced for solvent abuse.

He was arrested at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana after his wife Elizabeth made a call to the police following an argument.

Gibson had been arrested for the same offence 47 times prior to his latest brush with the law.

He was found by police with a can of silver spray paint in one hand and a paint covered plastic bag in the other.

He had silver paint covering the lower part of his face, including his nose.

Reports suggest that the Gibson’s house smelt of toxic chemicals.

The strong substances gives the person who inhales a ‘high’, but sustained abuse can lead to liver, kidney and brain damage.

The addict was photographed for police records with the evidence there for all to see.

His latest arrest will possibly do little to shake his habit. (Metro)

Artist creates sculptures from bananas/日藝術家的香蕉雕塑 四月 26

These a-peeling sculptures are sure to make you go bananas.

The detailed works of fruity art – featuring the faces of Elvis and Davey Jones from Pirates of The Caribbean – are carved with a toothpick and a spoon.

But there’s no room for slip-ups; each piece is completed in about half an hour, before the bananas start to rot.

When the sculptures are complete Japanese artist Keisuke Yamada photographs them and eats them.

Since posting pictures of his monkey business online, the 23-year-old has developed a cult internet following and gets new ideas from his fans’ suggestions.

He has made 11 pieces so far, including a dragon and ghoulish skulls.

Mr Yamada said: ‘I started making them about two weeks ago and since posting pictures of them online they have really taken off.

‘It began when I peeled a banana and thought it might be interesting to carve a face into the fruit.

‘The first one was the face of someone with a smile. I was surprised by how many people liked it so then I just started making more.

‘People began to suggest ideas and that was what gave me my inspiration.

‘Before I set about sculpting I think long and hard about exactly what I want it to look like.

‘Then I get to work. I want people to think they are interesting and not believe quite what they are seeing.

‘I just use an ordinary toothpick and a spoon from my house. I’m a perfectionist, and a simple design take about half an hour.

‘They can’t take much longer because then the fruit starts to go brown and I enjoy eating them once the work is done and I’ve taken a photo.’

Mr Yamada, an electrician, said: ‘I’m looking forward to making many more in the future.’ (wrapup)

Marathon man crosses the finish line then runs 99 miles without stopping/英男跑完馬拉松後不停地再跑了158公里 四月 24

Sam Robson completed last week’s London Marathon in a respectable time, then just decided to keep going – all the way home to St Ives.

Mr Robson, 28, crossed the finish line near Buckingham Palace on Sunday just three hours and 45 minutes after setting off from Greenwich Park.

But instead of stopping he carried on through the night and ran 99 miles to his hometown of St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

During his epic run he burnt off a staggering 15,000 calories and covered a 125.2 miles in just 29 hours.

Epilepsy sufferer Sam, who works as a research scientist, said he completed the challenge to raise money for the Epilepsy Society.

‘For most people the finish line was the end but for me it was just the beginning,’ he said.

Mr Robson, who was diagnosed with epilepsy aged 12, became a keen runner after he completed his first half marathon with his father in September 2009.

He decided to attempt his London Marathon challenge after gradually increasing his endurance until he could 100 miles every week.

He set out from London at 9.45am on Sunday before crossing the finishing line 3 hours and 45 minutes later to complete his first ever marathon.

However, instead of stopping Mr Robson carried on running through the night, before arriving in St Ives, Cambs., at 2.45pm on Monday.

During his run he did not sleep and only took a short two minute break every ten miles.

His proud fiancee Jen Sykes, 28, a respiratory physiotherapist, led his support team and said she was ‘amazed’ he completed the challenge.

‘Sam has never wanted to things by the half,’ she said. (Mail Online)

Woman grows hair for 21 years/女子蓄髮21年未剪 四月 21

A Chinese woman who hasn’t cut her hair for 21 years now has hair that measures 3.6 metres in length.

Jiang Aixiu from Fushun, central China’s Henan Province, last had a haircut in 1990. Jiang explained: "I went to get my hair cut, but the hairdresser suggested me to keep it as its quality is good."

Jiang never expected her hair would grow so fast and so long. She added: "I didn’t eat anything special or use any special shampoos."

Each year Jiang’s hair grows up to 20 centimetres. She continued: "I have to wash my hair section by section, and it takes at least two hours to wash it all."

Jiang has been offered 10,000 Yuan for her hair, but she refused. However, now Jiang plans to cut off her long hair, as doctors say the long hair absorbs too much nutrition from her head, which is not good for her health.

"It’s better for me to take it off, as it’s too much on my head," Jiang concluded. (wrapup)

3D artist paints stunning tiger from hidden, crouching women/美3D畫家用裸體模特兒繪出逼真的華南虎 四月 20

Artist Craig Tracy chose a canvas with a difference for his striking three-dimensional picture of a tiger.

Three naked women spent an amazing 24 hours as his subjects as he assembled his masterpiece to raise awareness about the plight of endangered creatures.

His next project might need to be in aid of sufferers of back pain.

Tracy, 43, from New Orleans, created the breathtaking piece to raise awareness about the endangered animal.

He assembled the women on the floor of his studio and then used paint specifically designed for human skin.

Throughout his career Craig has painted a staggering 400 bodies – including women at the Rio carnival and his home towns’ Mardi Gras.

And he admits that he has enjoyed his brush with fame.

He said: ‘The rich and famous seem to enjoy my work in due proportion. I have sold some works to them for up to $1,200, but I could never say which ones.

‘But it isn’t just celebs who love my work, people from all walks of life love it.

‘I’ve never had a negative interaction regarding what I paint or how I paint it.’

The self confessed art nut believes this particular work is his most successful and important of his life.

He added: ‘The South China Tiger image is certainly one of my favourite images so far.

‘I love what it represents and all of the good that it has done to help save the tiger.’

And Craig admitted that he doesn’t struggle to find models willing to appear in the buff for his art – they find him.

He said: ‘It has never been an issue for me. I paint on people and people are readily abundant.

‘All of my models are volunteers. I never use agencies or websites to find them. In fact, they find me.

‘Girlfriends that I have had, have had an understanding of what I do and the professional nature of how I paint and create. So I have never had any issues regarding jealousy – I simply wouldn’t tolerate it if they did.’

From humble beginnings as an airbrush artist in a local shopping mall at the tender age of 16 – Craig has gone on to set up the world’s first art gallery dedicated to body painting.

After graduating from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, he went on to become a freelance illustrator.

But soon decided it wasn’t the right career choice for him.

He said: ‘I actually hated being an Illustrator. I was so disappointed by just how mind-numbingly boring and lonely it all was.’

The body painter started with just a small amount of face painting before, several years later, he took to painting whole bodies into art works.

Now he owns and operates the first gallery dedicated solely to body painted images – which includes his stunning South China Tiger work inspired by Tom Mangelsen’s photograph.

The gallery allows visitors to see firsthand how body painting is done and he personally meets and educates hundreds of people each week in the New Orleans studio. (Daily Mail)

Octogenarian’s amazing flexibility/大陸80歲老翁身體超柔軟 四月 19

An 80-year-old pensioner’s body is so supple he is able to twist his legs around his neck.

Chen Daorong, from Zhangzhou, southern China’s Fujian Province, never received any professional training, but started the practice at home 12 years ago due to back problems in the lumbar region.

Chen explained: "I had this chronic lumbar vertebrae disorder, and no treatment, like acupuncture, massage, or medication was effective for this disease. The pain it caused often made me sleepless at night."

Chen had the idea of practicing flexibility exercises from watching an acrobatic show. He said: "There was an act where several acrobats can bend their body so flexibly and form various shapes. I then thought of having a try to relieve the pains."

Chen started with easy postures and acts to stretch his muscles and tendons. Chen continued: "Over the years, the disease disappeared, and I became well-known in the city for my soft body."

Chen can sit on the chair, while putting his legs around his neck; or he can sleep on one foot as a pillow. Acts like the splits or folding his body are also very easy for him.

Now Chen, who rises at 5am, practices his exercises for an hour. Then in the afternoon, he goes out for a 2km run or rides for 20kms.

Chen said: "I originally only wanted to treat my disease and never would expect to become a contortionist. Now I feel I am so healthy and energetic and can live up to 100 years old." (Orange News)
